Scottish Liqueur Centre at the Blair Horse Trials

This week at the Scottish Liqueur Centre, final preparations are being made for the Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Bruadar Country Fair on 21st to 24th August 2008. This year the event celebrates its 20th year at Blair Castle, and has grown from a small one day horse trials to one of the major three day events in Britain.

The country fair which runs along side the horse trials, has over 200 trade stands selling equestrian accessories, country clothing and local food and drink. As sponsors of the fair, the Scottish Liqueur Centre will have a 10 metre trade stand, where guests are welcome to come and sample any of our liqueurs or single malt whiskies.

We at the Scottish Liqueur Centre are proud to sponsor the Bruadar Country Fair. Bruadar, of course, is ideally suited to the outdoor life, being Scotland’s alternative to sloe gin. Manufactured from single malt Scotch whisky, honey and sloes it is perfect for any hip flask.

Over the next few months the Scottish Liqueur Centre's products will be available at country shows and game fairs all over the UK. Some of our products are not yet available through high street retailers in England. Therefore we view our presence at trade shows as a great opportunity for our customers south of the border to stock up on our fine selection of liqueurs and single malt whiskies.

At this time of year Perthshire is bustling with visitors, eager to follow the infamous 'Whisky Trail' of Scotland. Travel North of Perth on the A9 and it won't be long till you start spotting the Whisky Trail signs; after all, you are entering whisky country. The Highlands of Scotland are awash with whisky distilleries, and it seems the further north you go, the more frequent the distilleries become.

Being confronted with so much choice, wouldn't it be helpful to have a map of the finest and most esteemed distilleries? Here at the Scottish Liqueur Centre we have for sale the Malt Map of Scotland. At only £4.95 this map will not only be your guide between the great distilleries of Scotland, it will also be the perfect souvenier for you to remember your trip by.

The map gives the location of over 50 famous distilleries such as Macallan, Tullibardine and Glen Grant.

Whisky is our national drink. In the case of Scotland it is literally “The Wealth of a Nation”.

We at the Scottish Liqueur Centre are pleased, therefore, to be able to offer you some of the best. These are whiskies which we have sourced and bottled ourselves and we can therefore vouch for the quality! These are not the everyday, sterile, crystal-clear whiskies which you might buy anywhere. All of our malt whiskies are bottled without the chill-filtering process which removes the natural proteins and oils so essential to the taste and texture of the finished product. Each cask of Single Malt Scotch Whisky we purchase is unlike any other - this means that you will not be able to buy whiskies like ours anywhere else- they are unique.

The Carn Mor Cask range is our own collection of whiskies. We bottle without chill-filtering, therefore retaining all the oils and proteins that are so essential to flavour.

It's harvest time here in Bankfoot, Perthshire, and what a perfect time to visit. The sun is shining, so many visitors to the Scottish Liqueur Centre like to relax in the outdoor seating area; a pleasant place to sit and sip on a Highland Latte, accompanied by the distant hum of the harvest.

Set amongst the rolling hills of Perthshire, The Scottish Liqueur Centre is quiet literally at ‘The Gateway to the Highlands’. Completely upgraded and renovated in 2005, the visitor centre boasts a fine display of Scottish liqueurs, Scotch Whisky and other local produce. Enjoy a coffee or a pleasant lunch in our Columba Cream Café, before browsing for that special gift in our shop. The Scottish Liqueur Centre will provide a pleasant break to any long journey.

Ian Gray at the Scottish Liqueur Centre

Ian Gray was born in Hamilton in 1965. Paintings of Scottish and American distilleries form a large part of his work.

The work of Ian Gray can be found hanging on the walls of the Scottish Liqueur Centre. One of his most recent works, commissioned by the Liqueur Centre represents the "Celebration of the Cask" collection, now on sale at the Scottish Liqueur Centre (see below).

The Scottish Liqueur Centre has recently launched six new whiskies. By retaining the original name of our own brand bottlings; Carn Mor, we have built on, and brought something quite special to this fine Scottish brand.

There will only ever be 384 bottles produced from the Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask (cask 2111 - distilled at Macallan Distillery in 1965). And 484 bottles produced from the Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask (cask 2114 - also distilled at Macallan Distillery in 1965). The Scottish Liqueur Centre bottle whiskies without the chill-filtering process, therefore retaining the oils and natural proteins which are so vital to the whisky's taste.

Scottish Summertime

Ingredients:
Bramble 'S' Fruit Liqueur
Chilled lemonade
Scottish Strawberries
Scottish mint leaves
Ice

Begin by adding a little crushed ice to a high ball glass. Pour 5cl of Bramble 'S' Fruit liqueur over the crushed ice. Top up with some chilled lemonade. Garnish with fresh Scottish strawberries and mint leaves. Enjoy and repeat as desired.

The Scottish Liqueur Centre has recently launched six new whiskies. By retaining the original name of our own brand bottlings; Carn Mor, we have built on, and brought something quite special to this fine Scottish brand.

Included in this collection are two Carn Mor Celebration of the cask whiskies, distilled by Glen Grant Distillery in 1965. These whiskies were bottled on 29 March 1965, and have lived in a hogshead cask ever since then. They were bottled here at the Scottish Liqueur Centre on 2 June 2008 at a strength of 47.5% and 46.4% abv respectively. These whiskies came from two seperate casks, with cask 2136 producing 121 bottles and cask 2140 producing 155 bottles.

This whisky has an abv of 41.2% and is of extremely limited edition. There are only 138 bottles to be exact.

Scottish Liqueur Centre - a Celebration of the Cask

On Thursday 5th June, the Scottish Liqueur Centre held an evening of unique Scotch Whiskies, here at their premises in Bankfoot, Perthshire. Over 70 people attended this tutored tasting and finger buffet; with people from as far as Holland and Belgium in attendance.

This crowd of whisky enthusiasts were invited to taste a Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask 1965; distilled at Macallan Distillery with 48.4% abv (see picture) and a Carn Mor Celebration of the Cask 1965 distilled at Macallan Distillery with a 54.1% abv. Both these whiskies come from sherry butts with an extremely limited number of bottles actually on sale; around 380 and 480 respectively.

At the Scottish Liqueur Centre, we are proud to support local industry. Our liqueurs are produced using local ingredients; Bruadar is made using honey from Scarlett’s of Meigle, Perthshire, and Columba Cream is made from cream from Graham’s Dairies, in Bridge of Allan.

We also stock many other local suppliers’ products in our visitor centre, such as honey from Heather Hills Honey Farm, and Jewellery from Linda Lambert. Furthermore, at our Columba Cream Café in the visitor centre, give in to temptation and try our delicious soups and cakes made by a team of dedicated home bakers.

Scottish Liqueur Centre – The perfect stop for all travellers

Just off the A9 at Bankfoot (5 miles north of Perth), the Scottish Liqueur Centre is the perfect place to stop for a break, Whether you're travelling North into the Highlands, or south, we have plenty of parking for both coaches and private vehicles. The Scottish Liqueur Centre has, in recent times, become a favourite stopping place for those travelling in more unusual vehicles.

In May, there was a visit from the Morgan Car Club, who used the Scottish Liqueur Centre as the starting point to their Magical Mystery Lunch. Many other classic car enthusiasts like to stop by at our Columba Cream Cafe for a coffee, a bite to eat and a bit of shopping, on their way up into the Highlands. Tam's Revenge

Ingredients:
Ginger Tam's Liqueur
Fresh Lime
Ice
Ginger Ale

Drop two wedges of squeezed lime into a high ball glass, containing crushed ice. Add 5cl of Ginger Tam's Liqueur. Top up with cold ginger ale. Garnish with a fresh Scottish mint leaf.

Ginger's Revenge is a zingy, summery cocktail. One cannot ignore that wonderful whisky aftertaste once the sweet but dry ginger and lime flavours have fizzled away. Ginger Tam's is Scotland's strongest liqueur. At 48.5%, this is the perfect base for a whisky cocktail, with no need to add any other spirit or liqueur.

Ingredients:
Cranberry and Raspberry 'S' Fruit Liqueur (chilled)
Vodka (chilled)
Fresh raspberries
Ice

Pour 5cl of Cranberry and Raspberry 'S' Fruit Liqueur and 5cl of your favourite vodka into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake thoroughly, then serve into two Martini glasses. Garnish with a fresh raspberry, for the ultimate Scottish cocktail. Repeat as desired.

Perth Races and the Scottish Game Fair

Perth Races - The City of Perth Gold Cup Day 01 June 2008

The City of Perth Gold Cup day is the big family day at Perth Races. From Hawks flying through hoops, to magicians and Pipe bands. The City of Perth Gold Cup is now established as one of the biggest and perhaps the most prestigious jumping race of the summer in the UK. There is plenty of action from 11.00am onwards. The falconry displays and ferret racing in the Parade ring prior to racing are excellent. Pipe bands will interrupt your third drink but there will be plenty of time for more and a wide range of opportunities for lunch will be on offer. Fun for all the family and a great introduction if you have not been before.

Also this summer, Scone Palace hosts the Scottish Game Fair, from Friday 4^th to Sunday 6^th July 2008. Visitors come to the three-day Fair to enjoy the lively and friendly atmosphere, to learn more about their countryside, to see a huge variety of displays and demonstrations and to hunt for bargains in over 300 trade stands. Every year, Scottish Liqueur Centre has a trade stand at the Scottish Game Fair, where we will be offering members of the public free samples of all our liqueurs. Here people can try the famous Columba Cream, Bruadar and many more.

Paintings of Scottish and American distilleries form a large part of his work, as well as Scottish landscapes. Commissions of his work hang in The Scotch Malt Whisky society in Edinburgh, Ardbeg Distillery, Glenfarclas Distillery and the George Washington Museum at Mount Vernon in Virginia.

Bottling Columba Cream Liqueur at the Scottish Liqueur Centre

All our liqueurs are bottled on site at the Scottish Liqueur Centre in Perthshire, Scotland. Our most famous liqueur is Columba Cream, which you can see in the video above being bottled by Steve and Mike.
Our liqueur is named after St Columba, who in 564AD founded the Christian monastery on the Island of Iona, which has since been used as the burial place of Scottish Kings. Columba Cream is a quite delectable concoction based on a centuries-old family recipe for brose, a traditional Scots drink which was made daily (until the advent of refrigerators) using ingredients readily available on the crofts - whisky, oatmeal, cream, sometimes honey, sometimes fruit. While there is no official record that St Columba ever tasted our brose it is more than likely that he and his monks brewed up something similar on a regular basis.

We were delighted to learn that Atholl Estates will be serving Bruadar from their marquee at The Atholl Highland Gathering this weekend. These traditional Highland Games will be held in the grounds of Blair Castle; ancestral seat of the Duke of Atholl.

Bruadar, of course, is ideally suited to the outdoor life, being Scotland’s alternative to sloe gin. Uniquely manufactured from single malt Scotch whisky, honey and sloes it is perfect for any hip flask.

Bruadar maintains strong links with Atholl Estates as the sponsor of the Bruadar Country Fair at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials which will take place on 21-24 August this year.

60-70 classic cars will meet this weekend at the McDonald Highland Resort in Aviemore, Inverness-shire. Two of the classic car enthusiasts stopped by the Scottish Liqueur Centre on their way north. These ladies had driven from Kent in their Bentley Mark 6, which had been lovingly restored.
Many classic car clubs stop by at the Scottish Liqueur Centre. Situated at the gateway to the Highlands, the Scottish Liqueur Centre its the perfect place to stop on a journey through the Scottish countryside. Our Columba Cream Cafe has plenty of homemade soups and cakes; giving some well deserved warmth to those driving convertibles!

With summer just around the corner, we at the Scottish Liqueur Centre are enjoying the hustle and bustle. Visiting us this morning were Solus Coaches and Golden Eagle Coaches, both of which were on their way up north, with their next stop being Pitlochry.

Situated just 7 miles north of Perth on the A9, the Scottish Liqueur Centre is the perfect place to stop on journeys both north into the Highlands, and heading back south, as there is easy access from both directions. With plenty of parking for both coaches and private cars, the Scottish Liqueur Centre makes an ideal place to break up any long journey. And being part of the Perth and Kinross Council's ‘Comfort Scheme’ means we can provide toilet facilities to all members of the public for free.

Each coach party will receive an introduction to the Scottish Liqueur Centre, and have the opportunity to sample all of our fine liqueurs, which are bottled on site, here in Perthshire.

As well as liqueurs, we sell food and refreshments at the relaxing ‘Columba Cream Café’. Here we serve homemade soups and cakes everyday, along with other locally sourced produce. Try our Bruadar fruit loaf? Or maybe a Highland Latte (made with Columba Cream whisky liqueur).

The original Scottish Highland Liqueur. In the summer of 1995 we moved the manufacture and sales operation from the Island of Mull to our visitor centre in Bankfoot, Perthshire. The success of Columba Cream Liqueur stimulated the company into producing new, original liqueurs, ideal for today's tastes. Research and development over the period of a year led to the creation of Scottish Highland Liqueur, now rebranded as Bruadar, an amber coloured liqueur which perfectly complements Columba Cream. One of the key ingredients of Bruadar is carefully prepared sloeberries; enough to balance out the sweetness of the honey but not so many as to impart bitterness. The connoisseur will appreciate the maturation of the liqueur in the bottle. Once the bottle is opened, over a period of months the sweetness of the honey is rounded off and the taste of the sloes comes to the fore.
